Abstract
Cholesteatoma is a benign disease which can be associated with various extracranial or intracranial complications. Among the extracranial ones, Bezold’s abscess is a rare occurrence but it can lead to serious sequel spreading downward along the great vessels and reaching the mediastinum. We present the case of Bezold’s abscess as first sign of cholesteatoma recurrence many years after prior open cavity tympano-mastoidectomy. Most otitic suppurative complications are caused by an underlying chronic inflammation of the middle ear, so in patients with suppurative neck mass and history of cholesteatoma, regional recurrence should be ruled out even several years after the primary surgical treatment.
